About Us
Not a health food brand. Not a typical ice cream brand. Something better than both.
The Food
Every Proper Scoop flavour starts with an ingredient that has no business being in an ice cream. Then we follow it wherever it leads.
We do not use industrial stabilisers or synthetic thickeners. The creaminess comes from the ingredients themselves. The starchy density of taro. The silken richness of avocado. The deep sweetness of caramelised sweetcorn. Real ingredients, doing the work they were always capable of.
We source globally because the ingredients we use are global. The best ube comes from the Philippines. The best pomegranate molasses comes from the Middle East. We go wherever the quality is. The flavour always shows.
All our ice cream is vegan. Not as a statement. As a consequence of following the ingredients. Vegetables and fruits are less complicated than dairy and considerably more interesting.
Properly British
Proper Scoop is made by a very British person. Warmly, proper, with Nigerian and Danish roots and a genuine love of food from everywhere.
The name says it simply. Proper means genuine. The real thing. Done right. Scoop is the most joyful gesture in the world of ice cream. Together they describe exactly what we set out to make.
We are based in The Hague. We make ice cream for adventurous eaters. People who are food-curious and globally minded. People who want something genuinely different and are willing to be surprised. We are not a health food brand. We lead with flavour, not nutrition.
The Longer Ambition
Getting started in life is genuinely hard for a lot of young people. The first real opportunity, the first person who takes a chance on you. These things matter and they are not equally available to everyone.
We believe a food business, built right, can be a place where that beginning is possible. Where curiosity and willingness count for more than a perfect CV. Where a young person who wants to learn gets the genuine chance to do that.
That is the longer ambition behind Proper Scoop. The ice cream comes first. It has to be extraordinary, and it is. But the business it becomes should open doors. That matters to us as much as the flavours do.
